Our story

Every book starts with our own kids

Ryan Reed is an automation engineer, part-time firefighter, and dad from Southwest Michigan who creates books for kids alongside his family. He started making books for his own children, and the series grows as they do. Each new coloring book and easy reader is shaped by the stage of life they're in and the things they're learning along the way.

Ryan writes and designs his books with his wife, Chelsea, and their kids, Noah and Ava, who help dream up the animals, characters, and adventures inside. The Jax & Cooper easy readers are named after the family's real dogs. From whitetail bucks and largemouth bass to friendly pets and a little bit of magic, every book is made to be fun, simple, and just right for young hands. The Reed family loves sharing their stories with other families and hopes your little ones enjoy them as much as theirs do.

When he's not working on the next book, you'll find Ryan at the plant, at the fire station, or at home with Chelsea, the kids, and their pets.

One of our favorite moments so far: Ava picking up Jax & Cooper Count to 10 and reading the whole thing out loud to the family, all by herself, for the very first time.

The real stars

Meet the real Jax & Cooper

Every Jax & Cooper story starts with something our dogs really do. Here's the proof.

Jax the yellow Lab lying on a rug, gently meeting a baby ducklingReal life
Book illustration of Jax splashing in a pond with ducksIn the book
Jax, our gentle yellow Lab. He's best friends with the ducks and chickens in our backyard, so of course he meets the ducks in Jax & Cooper Visit the Farm.
Cooper the corgi lounging on the edge of our hot tubReal life

Cooper, our corgi. He's never far from the hot tub, which is exactly why it ended up in Jax & Cooper's First Sleepover.

Questions

Good to know

Where do I buy your books?

All of our books are sold on Amazon. Tap "Buy on Amazon" on any book and you'll check out with your own Amazon account and shipping.

Which book is right for my child's age?

Toddlers (2–5) love My First ABC & 123 and the coloring books. Ages 3–6 are perfect for the Jax & Cooper easy readers. Ages 4–8 enjoy the How to Draw books.

What is an easy reader?

Easy readers use short, simple sentences that repeat, so kids who are just learning can read the book by themselves. Our Jax & Cooper easy readers are written with our daughter in mind as she learns to read.

Are Jax and Cooper real dogs?

Yes. Jax is our yellow Lab and Cooper is our corgi. They really are best friends, and they really do get into everything. Scroll up to see them in real life.

How are the pictures made?

We create the illustrations with AI art tools, then our family picks and checks every page so the characters look right from cover to cover.

When will personalized books be ready?

We're building them now and plan to launch in 2027, starting with Junior Firefighter.
